Winter Ravages

Track removed from rotten bridges in the side garden

  1. Hi Keith. Firstly, congratulations on a great railway and thank you for sharing it with us.

    I have a large lift out section that temporarily (3 years so far!) uses a decking board for the track bed and have been looking at making a simple bridge from aluminium for sometime. I have been looking at the image of your bridge across the pond and I was wondering if you could tell me if the upper cross bars are solid or hollow, as they appear to be riveted? Many thanks, Dean

  2. All of the bars, including the top one, are channel sections ('U' shaped) - 3/4" x 1/2". I get all of my aluminium from a local supplier called L.A. Metals - www.lametals.co.uk. The top bars are riveted to the side bars. With a little filing the 1/2" dimension fitted into the inside of the 3/4" dimension. Hope this helps.
